NRG Headquarters
A data-driven lobby installation that artfully visualizes the building's realtime energy usage and output
Client: NRG
Technology: WebGL, Javascript, HTML5, CSS3, Node.js
Role: Developer
The NRG HQ experience is a dynamic, 4K, data-driven lobby installation for NRG's headquarters in Princeton, NJ, to artfully visualize the building's energy usage and output from different energy sources in real time.
My role was to design and develop a WebGL particle system to represent each of the different energy sources, and program the behavior and animation of these particle systems to match the changes in energy source usage. The particles animated in place as well as following a path to form circles and the shapes of different 3D objects. The 3D objects corresponded with facts about each of the energy sources. I also programmed the text and CSS animated elements of the visualization.
